Fish Care & Safe Photography Guidelines
At Don Carp Lake every fish is a true treasure, protecting them is our shared responsibility.
To ensure these beautiful carp remain healthy for many years, please follow the guidelines below.
Why Protecting the Carp’s Mucus Layer Is Essential?
Every carp is covered by a delicate protective slime coat that:
- shields them from infections,
- helps wounds heal faster,
- reduces stress and physical damage.
If this layer is damaged, the fish can easily get sick or even die.
Therefore:
- always use a fully soaked, wet carp cradle,
- continuously pour fresh lake water over the fish (especially in warm weather),
- never place the fish on a dry surface, never drag or slide it.
Photography – Only Safe & Controlled Handling
- Standing photos are strictly forbidden.
- Hold the fish only while kneeling, directly above the cradle, with a stable two-handed grip.
- Never touch or insert fingers into the gills. Any gill damage almost certainly leads to death.
- Keep the fish out of the water for the shortest possible time.
- While waiting for the bailiff, the fish must be kept only in a floating weigh sling, in the water.
- No other storage method is allowed.
Please Call Us for Bigger Fish (14–15 kg+)
For every carp above 14–15 kg, please call the bailiff immediately so we can:
- check the fish’s condition,
- perform chip verification,
- take a photo for our official lake records.
Thank you for your cooperation!

- Using a large, soft, carp-friendly landing net and a proper carp cradle is mandatory
(Don Carp Lake or Nash Medi Carp Kit disinfectant must always be used).
- On the bank only carp cradles may be used; in boats, thick-sided mats are permitted.

Protecting the Carp’s Mucus Layer
A carp’s body is covered with a vital natural mucus layer that:
- shields the fish from infections,
- supports skin healing,
- reduces stress and physical abrasion.
Damage to this layer can lead to disease or even death.
Therefore:
- Always use a fully soaked, wet cradle.
- Continuously pour fresh lake water over the fish—especially in warm weather.
- Never place a fish on a dry surface, never drag or slide it.
Photography – Safe and Respectful
- Standing up with the fish is strictly prohibited.
Only kneeling, with the fish held securely over the cradle, using both hands.
- Never hold or lift the fish by the gills; even minimal gill damage is often fatal.
- Keep the fish out of the water for the shortest time possible.
- The caught fish must remain in a floating weigh sling, in the water, until our bailiff arrives.
Any other form of storage is not allowed.
If You Need Help – Call Us Immediately
